Adding a Safety Lock to Industrial Production

Aug 6,2024
As the manufacturing industry continues to upgrade, automated equipment has become deeply integrated into various production lines. Due to the highly automated nature of these systems, it is essential to enhance equipment safety measures and ensure personnel safety. Naturally, given the distinct characteristics of different equipment, potential risk points and corresponding solutions must be customized accordingly.

Application Scenarios of Safety Switches

For the protective doors of machine tools, the door can only be opened through specific methods once the equipment has completely stopped, thereby ensuring the safety of the operators.

Safety switch products typically consist of two parts: the switch body and the accompanying release key. When the safety protective door of the equipment is open, the normally closed contact inside the switch automatically opens through an internal mechanical rebound mechanism, cutting off the equipment's power supply or control signal. When the safety protective door is properly closed and the release key is inserted into the switch body, the normally closed contact closes, allowing the machine’s drive or control system to be powered on and start operating.

The unique aspect of safety switches is that they can only be operated with the specific release key, effectively preventing unauthorized access by common tools like keys, screwdrivers, pliers, or knives, and significantly reducing the risk of accidental or malicious operation.

Working Principle of Safety Switches

DADISICK's OX-W2 series safety switches operate in two modes:

1. Solenoid Lock/Mechanical Release Safety Switches
This type of safety switch uses a solenoid to lock equipment parts (such as protective doors or safety covers) to prevent operation under unsafe conditions. When the system is in a safe state (e.g., the equipment has stopped), the solenoid is energized, creating a strong magnetic force that engages the locking mechanism securely. To release the lock, the solenoid’s power is cut off, causing it to lose its magnetic force. The locking mechanism is then disengaged manually through mechanical means (such as handles or knobs), allowing the equipment to be operated or maintained.

2. Mechanical Lock/Solenoid Release Safety Switches
In contrast to the solenoid lock/mechanical release method, this type uses a mechanical device to lock the equipment and relies on solenoid force for unlocking. When the equipment needs to be locked, a mechanical structure (such as latches or catches) secures the equipment in a safe position. To release the lock, the solenoid is energized, generating a force that activates the unlocking mechanism, releasing the mechanical lock, and allowing the equipment to operate.

The Safety Door Switch Slide Key Unit is an ideal complement to safety switches and safety locking devices. The accurate guidance of the actuating element enhances the tolerance when the door is offset, and always guarantees the normal function of the installed safety switch. In addition, the Safety Door Switch Slide Key Unit effectively prevents the breakage of the actuating element. Therefore, faults are avoided, achieving a high-performance level for the overall structure. Additional options such as hinged locks or emergency unlocking devices can reliably prevent accidental entry of maintenance personnel.
