Q: How to determine the height of a safety light curtain?

Update Time:2023/8/28
A:
The height position of a safety light curtain refers to the position of the light curtain relative to the upper and lower die openings on the machine. Under the premise of ensuring a safe distance, the lowest beam of the safety light curtain must not be higher than the lower edge of the die opening, and the highest beam must not be lower than the upper edge of the die opening.

The protective height of a safety light curtain refers to the distance between the uppermost and lowermost beams of the light curtain, which represents the effective height of the light curtain. The protective height is equal to the stroke of the machine slide plus the adjustment amount. The size of the protective height is related to the number of safety light curtain beams. If the number of beams is too few, the light curtain height may not fully cover the hazardous area, potentially leading to accidents. On the other hand, if the protective height is too large, it can result in unnecessary expenses and inconvenience in usage. Therefore, selecting the appropriate specifications (number of beams) for the safety light curtain based on the protective height is crucial.

The safety distance of a safety light curtain refers to the shortest distance between the light curtain and the dangerous area of the working mold edge, which is the distance required for the slide to stop from the position where the hand obscures the light curtain to reach the danger boundary. The safety distance is one of the necessary conditions to ensure the protective function of the safety light curtain and must be calculated correctly! The calculation method should be determined based on the braking method of the press.
