Forklift Operating Environment and Safety Challenges

In busy production areas and logistics centers, forklifts are indispensable material handling equipment, frequently traversing various halls and different areas within buildings to carry out critical transport tasks. However, behind this efficient operation lies significant safety risks. Particularly in transitional areas between warehouses and production zones, such as protective doors and entry passages, any slight mishandling of forklift operations can lead to severe consequences.

When forklifts pass through these narrow or low-clearance areas, if their lift height is not strictly controlled, or if they carry loads that exceed their designed safety limits, high-level collision accidents are highly likely. Such collisions can not only damage the forklifts themselves, rendering them temporarily or permanently inoperable, but also potentially damage surrounding structures, especially critical safety facilities like fire doors, possibly triggering fires or other severe safety crises.

Given these risks, the project requirements clearly specify the need to develop a forklift collision avoidance system based on 2D safety laser scanners. This system should enable real-time monitoring and warning of forklift lift heights and surrounding environments. It must accurately measure the distance between the forklift and obstacles (such as door lintels and beams) and issue timely alerts before reaching safety thresholds, prompting the driver to adjust operations or take other collision avoidance measures.

Additionally, the system needs to ensure smooth and efficient logistics transport, maintaining normal production processes and material flows while ensuring safety. Through intelligent and automated collision control, it aims to reduce risks caused by human error and improve overall production efficiency, creating a safer and more orderly working environment in production areas and logistics centers.

Solution:

The height of the forklift varies with the height of the cargo being transported. The DADISICK LD-20D safety laser scanner features a 270° measurement angle and can set up 16 zone groups, each containing 3 zones, making it capable of detecting virtually any object shape.

The LD-20D safety laser scanner can be installed either on the front or the side of a door, depending on the plane that needs to be monitored. Users can set specific trigger conditions, such as issuing an alarm when an object enters a certain distance or zone. This allows for effective monitoring of the forklift's height, preventing collisions caused by overly high cargo, thus avoiding economic losses and personal injuries.
✅ 270° scanning angle, 20-meter measurement radius
✅ Self-learning function: Automatically scans the surrounding environment to generate zones
✅ 16 zone group configurations
✅ Protection level: IP65, suitable for harsh industrial environments
