Access Guarding on Multi-Track Transport Systems with Safety Laser Scanners

With the continuous improvement of machine and equipment automation levels, the demand for safety protection solutions has become increasingly stringent. Traditional measures such as shielding have approached their limits of effectiveness in practical applications. To address this, we have introduced innovative safety solutions aimed at achieving seamless safety protection, efficient material flow, and high equipment availability, even in highly automated operating environments.

For multi-track transportation equipment, which can often span several meters in length, traditional safety solutions often require significant investments to secure the entrances and exits of hazardous areas. This often leads to a conflict between economic considerations and safety guarantees, forcing compromises in practice and placing greater demands on operators' personal responsibility and discipline. Critically, there may be safety technical blind spots during material transportation, such as overlooked safety monitoring on the sides of tracks, theoretically allowing operators to inadvertently enter hazardous areas during transport. Relying on additional organizational safety measures to compensate may, in turn, compromise equipment operating efficiency.

In light of this, our safety solutions have been optimized specifically for the characteristics of multi-track transport systems. Through a simple and quick installation process, our innovative safety strategies can be implemented, ensuring that equipment maintains both impeccable safety and extremely high usage efficiency, truly achieving a seamless integration of safety and efficiency.

Requirement:

The pallets are conveyed onto individual tracks via lateral conveyors. Protective measures should be implemented at the lateral conveyors and the areas beyond to prevent personnel access. These protective measures should only release the tracks where pallets are being output.

Solution:

A safety laser scanner will be installed at the entry point where the lateral conveyor meets the individual tracks, specifically in the area where pallets are about to leave the conveyor and enter the output track. This safety system will be integrated into the system control, receiving real-time information about the pallet output tracks and adjusting the protection zones of the laser scanner accordingly. In this way, when a pallet is ready to enter a designated track, the laser scanner will create a safe passage for that track while maintaining protection for other tracks. Should anyone attempt to illegally access or interfere with this area, the laser scanner will immediately detect it and trigger safety mechanisms such as stopping the conveyor and sounding an alarm.

Working Principle:

The working principle is as follows: The safety laser scanner establishes a protection zone at the junction between the lateral conveyor and the output tracks. When the PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) in the system control detects that a pallet is about to enter a specific output track, it sends a release signal to the laser scanner before the pallet reaches the protection zone. Upon receiving the signal, the laser scanner opens a predefined window for that track, allowing the pallet to pass safely. While this window is open, all other non-target tracks remain protected, preventing personnel access. Once the pallet has fully passed through the window, the laser scanner automatically resets the protection zone to its original state, reinstating protection for all tracks.
